The Arecibo and Green Bank Observatories will conduct the Single Dish Summer School between May 16th - 20th, 2022.
We are excited to welcome participants in person at the Arecibo Observatory in Arecibo, Puerto Rico! There will also be an option for full virtual participation.
The application deadline is Wednesday, April 6th, 2022, 5pm EDT. Participants will be notified of acceptance by April 8th.
The school will entail a series of useful lectures geared toward an introduction to the fundamentals of single dish radio astronomy as well as a variety of hands-on, guided research projects that make use of the 12-m radio antenna at AO and the extensive AO data archive.
In addition to the school activities, multiple social activities are planned, including a guided tour of the AO site, a banquet with workshop participants and mentors, and a cultural trip to explore local attractions.
Meals and lodging are covered for the participants by the observatory. Transportation will be provided to all planned activities and to/from the San Juan airport on the recommended travel dates (May 15th, 21st). Participants must fund and coordinate their own travel to and from Puerto Rico.
The school is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
IMPORTANT NOTE: The single dish summer school is not combined with the observer training workshop this year. For those interested in observer training for future use of the Green Bank Telescope, the next workshop will be held virtually on August 3-5, and registration will be open from May 1st - June 22nd, 2022 at this link: https://greenbankobservatory.org/event-details/?ee=3100
