Summer Student Program for 1996
Jo Ann Eder
This summer we have 12 students from universities in Puerto
Rico and the mainland. Each student will participate in his/her own research
project, will attend talks and tours related to the radio astronomy, radar
astronomy, and atmospheric science programs at Arecibo, and will explore
the island. Because the upgrade is in its final stages, many of the students
from engineering and computer science departments will be involved in upgrade-related
projects, which should be a unique and rewarding experience for them. The
1996 NAIC summer students are: Aomawa Baker (MIT), Lymari Castro (University
of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez), David Goldbrenner (Harvard), Cindy Hancox
(University of California-Berkeley), Dona Hertel (Western Washington University),
Rebecca Lamkin (Rutgers), Nina Menezes (Cornell), Lourdes Rodríguez
(Universidad Metropolitana), Sven Schrecker (San Diego State University),
Matthew Schwartz (University of Pennsylvania), César Tavárez
(UPR-Mayagüez), and Luís Wilkes (UPR-Humacao).
